Our annual fundraising event, Paws and Claws, was an outstanding success this year. After several years of bad weather: rain, wind, snow and freezing temps, the weather for the event on Sunday, Sept. 25 was absolutely perfect! The event was sold out, 140 guests, and our first-time VIP reception was a big hit too. The VIP guests were able to get their photo taken holding a giant eagle owl named Louise, courtesy of Jim and Kathleen Tigan and Raptor Adventures.
Our guests were then invited to tour the facility. All the animals were out on display, and a special education station was set up at the Black Bear exhibit, with Teresa and Linda answering questions about bears.
Down below, we invited two special guest speakers to talk about their specialties. Erica Hermsen, representation Action for Cheetahs in Kenya, talked about cheetah conservation. The guests really enjoyed her talks.
Jim Tigan of Raptor Adventures showed off his owl, hawk and falcon for the crowd.
Then it was time to go to Base Camp for a fabulous dinner.
Dinner was a great on-site barbecue from Pockets Grill, with desserts from the Eldorado. The tri-tip was especially yummy!
During dinner, guests had the option of bidding on a host of silent auction items, purchasing stuffed animals that provide funds to feed our animals, enjoying music from the band, Socks, and entering our Care4Bears Raffle.
After dinner we held a live auction for some amazing packages, including several getaway vacation packages. The live auctioneer amazed everyone with speedy voice..
Then it was time to head out to the Cheetah Run field to watch our boys, Moyo and Jamar run!
We want to thank all our amazing volunteers who put this event together, as well as volunteers and staff that made it happen. But most of all, we want to thank our guests who came to spend the day with us, and for all their support!
