Animal Ark A Sancuary for Life
Volunteer Program

The backbone of any non-profit organization is the volunteer. Animal Ark is no exception. We rely on support from individuals in our community to assist us. Currently we have very few paid positions with the rest being volunteer labor.

Our animals and the visiting public are very important to us. We ask that our volunteers be ready to commit time in the areas listed below. You will have fun and enjoy the reward of helping. We look forward to hearing from you.

We need help in many areas:

  • Docents (16 & older) - enjoy helping the public and school children with their wild experience at Animal Ark.
  • Admissions Attendant (21 & older) – Welcome people to the Ark and support our fundraising through the Gift Shop.
  • Wildlife Educator – help mornings leading children’s tours.
  • Grounds Keeper (15 & older) – Enjoy the outdoors and help by keeping the Animal Ark clean and beautiful.
  • Construction/Maintenance - Maintenance is constant work even in the winter when we are closed to the public. Note; we need large teams to help out each year in March to prepare for the upcoming season and also in late spring for landscape maintenance. This is a great opportunity for a group to help on a short term basis. As we are always planning future habitats please help us with our expansion by becoming part of our construction team.
  • Marketing - the committee does not work at the Animal Ark but in town throughout the year to support fundraising, publicity and awareness to the local community.
  • Behavioral Enrichment Volunteer - individuals, families, or groups can participate by making or designing enrichment activities for the animals. This is one of the most rewarding items when you see the animal respond.
  • Animal Keeper /Educator (18 & older) - please note in most instances this requires proven experience at the Animal Ark before this position can be obtained.
  • Ark Meals on Wheels – assist with scheduled transportation of animal food from Reno/Sparks to the Animal Ark facility.

All volunteer positions require training and a specific time commitment. Please contact us for further information. We promise that it will be a rewarding experience unmatched anywhere else!
